Jack Kent (1920 - 1985) was a cartoonist and children's author. From 1950 to 1965 he wrote and drew the syndicated comic strip King Aroo, a cult favorite beloved for its absurdity, wordplay, and inventiveness. After a short stint as a magazine cartoonist (for everything from Humpty Dumpty to MAD Magazine to Playboy) and greeting card artist, he began creating children's books. Between 1968 and 1985 he published over 60 books, including classics such as The Fat Cat, There's No Such Thing as a Dragon, and The Caterpillar and the Polliwog.
